Collioure: a photo gallery

Collioure is a very beautiful place.  We did nothing here but walk through town and along the harbor, admiring the fortress and lighthouse from many angles.  Our host tells us that a visit to the fortress is unmissable, and that the modern art museum is also well worth a visit.  We would have really enjoyed the fort I’m sure, but we wanted to ride to Port Bou (to be posted separately) even more so we just saw what we could in a morning stroll.

So someday, when I’m even older and greyer, I’ll come back and say something more about what we saw here.  For now though, I’ll just drop some photos so we don’t forget what a special place this is.

Three cormorants, and Collioure’s iconic lighthouse/bell tower. Originally erected in the 1500’s as a lighthouse, it was later converted to the bell tower of the adjacent church.

Coullioure is beautiful, but the companionship made the day one to be treasured. Life wouldn’t be the same without her.

The vertical seaward wall of the fort is astonishingly high.

A series of these frames is placed around the waterfront, as viewpoints upon the lighthouse.

It’s been a good week for birds taking flight.

A man I can relate to. He’s been propping his bike against the driftwood, taking a photo, and then shooting again from a different angle.

Very pretty, but in the end I think this is just an advertisement.
