The new plan

There was no miracle hamstring recovery

The good news is that I’ll soon be off to Paris and will be in Nice on Thursday afternoon. They’re about to start boarding.

The bad news is that I’m without my bike. My sore hamstring has not recovered to a point where I think I could climb over 13,000 m in the next three weeks. And I don’t want to do long-term damage. So I made the executive decision to leave my bike in Canada. I’ve rented a car in Corsica, and will provide Mel with a personal sag wagon as she bikes. She has re-jigged the distances, and will have some big days!  I’ll hike as much as I can - that doesn’t seem to hurt. And we’ll now have a few two night stays, with more time to explore those towns.

It’ll be a different trip than I planned, but I’m still lucky enough to be heading off to France tonight.  Can’t complain about that!

Steve Miller/GrampiesSo sorry that you had to change your trip plan, but better safe than sorry. You still get to see Corsica at least. Hope the hamstring heals up and the hiking doesn't make things worse. Take it easy and enjoy the countryside. We'll be following you, from a distance, as we are headed north from Provence to northern Germany.

Jacquie GaudetA torn hamstring is awful! They take so long to heal (or at least that’s how it seems when you’re living through it. Enjoy the hiking!

CHRISTOPHER JAMESNote: I’m just back from five weeks riding in Spain and France. As an American, I was treated very well. I am fluent in French and have entry level Spanish language skills, so that definitely helps. People will speak French to you in Corsica
