How far are you going ?

Americans have no fear of talking to strangers. For example, today a cyclist who passed me, looked at my heavy load and asked "How far you going ?".

"5000 miles" I replied.

"How much have you done so far ?"

"5000 miles" I replied.

I swung by Bell Labs where a device was invented that revolutionised the world, namely the transistor. But there is no museum or commemoration plaque that is open to the public.
