Day 210-211: Athens - Bike Bimble - CycleBlaze

April 30, 2025 to May 1, 2025

Day 210-211: Athens

Not much cycling for a few days. A bit of sight-seeing in Athens (some of the ancient sites, like Parthenon / Acropolis). And prepping the bikes to be ridden again after their stuffing into the bike boxes. And dodging cigarette smoke – something we didn’t notice in Africa – almost no smokers. Not the same in Greece.

We’re a (bit of a) fan of Greek yoghurt. No-where else seems to have the same yoghurt as here. The selection is huge, based on how much fat it contains. Our time is short in Greece, so we went straight for 1kg of 10% fat. A jar of honey and a loaf of bread. And maybe a couple more tubs of yoghurt after that one was gone.

Is it obvious that we miss western food?

Yuuuummm.... yoghurt

Cath’s bike finally got the new bottom bracket it has been screaming out for – after trying 4 different bikes shops in Athens. But at least they all knew what we wanted, just had to order it in. We gave up trying to fix it in Africa. The chains and chainrings are still a disaster, but we’re sneaking up on getting all the bits we need to fix those.

It's easier to find internet, and harder to find time to update the blog, in Europe. There may be longer breaks between updates, or the whole thing might just peter out...

Catherine DockerTo Rich FrasierHi Rich, thanks for the encouragement. We will try to keep it up, but we might be splitting up in a few weeks for a couple of months. Stephen wants to race up to Nordkaap, I won't make it so am going to spend glorious time with family and potter about solo for a few weeks....we haven't talked about what might happen with the blog...🤔
