Rest Day at Crystal Lake - Beulah

It was supposed to rain, and do this and that, so today seemed like a good day to take an easy and plan. It is a good day for that.

So I got a room at the inn. Turns out that was a great idea...I seem to be a bit tired, so a rest Day is in order. I did not follow the proscribed route here as that would have been 75 miles. So ad libbing, I got it down to about 40.

Ad libbing can be perilous using Google. It likes to use trails and dirt roads for bicyclists. (Aside, Otis is doing Dock Of The Bay, sweet). Now in MI, if it's a seasonal road, it'll be sandy. If it's a trail, it'll be sandy.

This was Luhrs Trail.

Fortunately, RWGPS, has great detail for roads regarding if they are paved. I took about 3 miles of heinous trail, often walking as it was WAY to sandy. And tried to avoid falling ( 700 x 25 tires) by staying unclipped. And yes my new besties, the skeeters joined. Then I paid a lot closer attention to RWGPS and avoided non-paved roads on out. It worked out great.

So here I am in Beulah. Planning life for the next two weeks or so. It looks like I'll go back to Bay City. From there go over the thumb again (ugh), head south and get a ferry to Sandusky OH! Then along the southern coast of L Erie to Buffalo. Buffalo will be tricky. (I have zero desire to cross back into CA using the Peace Bridge and then having to get back into the US using the Lewiston Bridge, as the proscribed ACA you're goes.)  Get back onto the Erie Canal trail but not sure what happens after that. I could take the trail out to Albany and then figure a way home. Or follow the NT essentially retracing my route in reverse. My brother-in-law will also be passing through the ADK area going to Lincoln around than.  I just might catch a bit of a ride. Well see.

Seeing some more horse farms further south. Apparently, Cadillac and Detroit seem to want the horse power.
