Mackinaw - The Top of the Lower

Petoskey State Park

Well this was an interesting juxtaposition. The morning was rather boring along Rte 23 but with a tail wind up to Mackinaw. From there the wind was mostly in my face but nice back roads.

Cheboygan was my first town for the day. I stopped in at a wonderful bakery (is that a surprise?) for late breakfast. The small place was filled with old people. Yes, older then me!   It only took about 10 to fill the place. Seemed so congenial. The town itself is a bit rough around the edges but the small downtown (ok, the one main Street) is pretty nice. And the name, well it's sounds like it should be in Jersey.

Last looks at Lake Huron.

Harbor Springs, a tourist downtown but very upscale along the bluff.

Amazing that I've seen so few horses in such a rural state. Maybe it's all about the boats.

Not a great camp site. That's ok, I'll be sleeping soon.

Mackinaw City is strictly about tourism. Quite nice buildings but easy to take a pass on. The bridge though is truly impressive. At the time of building was the longest suspension bridge in MI AND the world. Now it's number 7. It rates.

This is first MI State campground with more then a handful of people. It's about half full. And not withstanding my particular site, it's actually kind of nice.

Currently listening to my random songs and Bing is singing "I'll Be Home For Christmas". He got that right!

Today's ride: 105 miles (169 km)
Total: 1,150 miles (1,851 km)
