So the middle of the ride seemed pretty good. Most of the beginning and end were too interesting to be good. The first 10 miles into Wallaceburg were actually really good. Quiet roads with a small tail wind. Then came small shoulders and lots of traffic. Then came the severe weather that was warned of. It lived up to its rep! Then more rain, crappy roads and headwinds. The trifecta. The middle was notable only for it's lack of adversity (ah, yeah, there was still rain to deal with but I haven't melted yet). And the end was more rain and headwinds. It is not what I signed up for but I'll get over it.
I was the only passenger en route to Walpole. As usual CA customs was great..
Once in Leamington, I found the ferry to Ohio only runs three days a week. Today was full and tomorrow not at all. So Friday, two days hence and at 4 pm. The Web site to book a ride was incomprehensible to this grey beard. Too bad for me. One one half hour on the phone and I booked passage. Then, a hotel room. After looking at maps, distances, wind direction (hah!) I decided on retracing my route along the north side of Lake Erie, at least to the Erie Canal. Disappointing for sure but sitting about for two days seemed wasteful. Dang, that $25. Cad dollars for the ferry I'll never see again!
Today's ride: 67 miles (108 km) Total: 1,686 miles (2,713 km)
