Back in the USA

Marysville, MI

Well today was a shorter day by some standards. I was checked into a motel by 1ish and getting my laundry done immediately. Kind of needed it.

Again, not much to say regarding the ride, at least on the CA side. Mostly planted and unplanted fields. Oh, and dirt roads! Hard pack is fine, but there were 2 miles, one was loose gravel and the other soupy clay... Not fun. But it landed me at the Walpole ferry that was short and sweet.

On the US side, I traveled up the St Clair River. Even with the head wind and occasional cold rain, it was fun. The river really dominated the landscape, though surely many must use it just to get to on of the Great Lakes. The riverside communities were a good mix of residential and business.

Eh, Tim Horton's.

This really was the majority of the 35 ish miles of riding in CA.

Canals were throughout the landscape. Some for recreation and some for irrigation, or both.

CA from the US side of the St Clair. The ferry on the right is the one I traveled over on.

Loads of piers on the US side.

So the next few days should be interesting in finding camping. Figuring out where to lay my head is usually the toughest part of the day. And obviously, if that's the toughest part of the day, my life is easy.

Pretty sure I saw another blue bird yesterday. The color is wonderful. Also a great heron and a great blue heron. And yes I saw a LIVE opossum. That was a treat! Also seeing ever more black squirrels. We don't have them in VT and so, that's fun. Their flight distance is pretty great, so trying to get a picture has not been possible (yet).

Today's ride: 59 miles (95 km)
Total: 740 miles (1,191 km)
