Day 8: Cle Elum to the Columbia River

Today started with a walk around the South Cle Elum rail yard and a great breakfast at the B&B. The first part of the ride started on gravel rail trail, and per the recommendation of two riders yesterday, we altered our route to avoid the Army Yakima Training Center. Apparently, a heavy layer of pea gravel has been placed on the trail and is reportedly 1 foot deep in places. We’ve included a map of our route if others are interested. It’s a long hill up and down, but 75% of the road is newly paved. We stopped in Ellensburg to pick up another inner tube (just in case) and grabbed a sandwich for lunch. The great part about the detour today was that it passed by the Ginko Petrified Forest State Park. Dinner was in camp at Wanapum State Rec Area Campground.
