Day 12 - Now in Mainz

Near the Frankfurt airport

Today was an interesting one but not because of cycling issue.  We stated out from Ludwigshafen as usual about 8:30 for Mainz.  Ludwigshafen was not very impressive since it is really an industrial hub and the home of BASF an huge chemical manufacturer.  Along the way we stopped at Worms (not sounded like fish bait).  It is a lovely town with Roman roots, in fact it competes with Cologne and Trier as the oldest town in Germany.
We glued about the town before getting back on the route.  The big issue at Worms was that we found out that our accompanying van, which is a diesel vehicle, had gasoline put in the tank.  Needless to say “mein auto ist kaput”, the vehicle is broken and won’t go.  We carried on with a lovely ride while our leader solved the problem.  In the end our luggage arrived by taxi but the original vehicle is still stuck on the side of the road.

As for the rest of our ride we stopped at a lovely gasthaus along the route for a drink and some frites.  After that we carried on to Mainz our destination.  We wandered the town for a bit before dinner and then called it a night.
