Is this a commonly seen bird? There's one (or I'm seeing one of a pair) who lives about halfway down Harrison Greenway. I see him (her) hanging out at the top of the palo verde on the fence side of the path. He's always pretty high up in the tree, but I enjoy seeing his topknot silhouette.

The extension of the Pantano Wash path up to Vail is supposed to be one of the top three path construction plans. That is of great interest to me, as I'm located adjacent to Michael Perry Park.

I once tried eating a barrel cactus fruit, but it was tough, kind of dry and rather tasteless. I guess if one was starving, it might be ok.

He’s listed as an 8-10” body, but that must not include the head because the wings are 16”. What always impressive when I get a good look though is the feet, that look like climber’s crampons.

Gilas are the largest and most common woodpeckers down here. Once you learn and tune into its call, you’ll hear it most times you go out, even right in town.

Even thought Bushmills is all in capital letters, your head makes for the perfect “dot the letter i”, Scott. :)

I know - pretty dull, right? I’ll bet you’re missing those good and bad story days already.

Well, that’s what she was going in for (it’s the size of my kaput SD card), but came out with 3 128’s instead, which works fine. I’ve got all the memory I need now.
