It’s the state bird? How did I not know that?
2 years agoThe Arizona state bird! I rate almost a zero on birding, but even I recognize their call. It makes me smile, every time.

2 years agoOoh, that’s so sad! Frustrating for them, and bad news for the intended recipients. We’ve been speculating about security too, since it seems like you could just pick one up and walk off with a free meal. I wonder if they scream and shout if they’re under attack.

2 years agoIt’s definitely better walking than biking in really cold weather. Although, even walking sounds too cold!
2 years agoNo portable feeders, or recordings or whistles or other lures. I’m perfectly happy to just see what flys by my path without trying to lure anyone in.
I’m not surprised about the hummingbirds - Anna’s live here throughout the winter, but that’s about it. You don’t start getting more variety until the summer months.
I just can't bring myself to view mining waste heaps as picturesque. There's a good reason they're called "spoil".
