I just can't bring myself to view mining waste heaps as picturesque. There's a good reason they're called "spoil".

It’s the state bird? How did I not know that?

The Arizona state bird! I rate almost a zero on birding, but even I recognize their call. It makes me smile, every time.

Your quest, your rules.

If unconfirmed by photo sightings might be permitted we may have two or three we could add to our total (which we will only have time to organize when we get home).

They do look very much like today's pair, don't they?

Ooh, that’s so sad! Frustrating for them, and bad news for the intended recipients. We’ve been speculating about security too, since it seems like you could just pick one up and walk off with a free meal. I wonder if they scream and shout if they’re under attack.

I was thinking of you specifically. Leagues above the place we went with you two, and actually aren’t likely to go back to ourselves.

Someone I follow on social media who lives in Cambridge UK came across these poor benighted robots one night. They were stuck at a pedestrian crossing through at least three light cycles. https://twitter.com/naomidaviesart/status/1598086063116779520. The BBC picked it up from her: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-cambridgeshire-63821535.

Perhaps he thinks of it as her front wheel because it is so often in front of him.

It’s definitely better walking than biking in really cold weather. Although, even walking sounds too cold!

No portable feeders, or recordings or whistles or other lures. I’m perfectly happy to just see what flys by my path without trying to lure anyone in.

I’m not surprised about the hummingbirds - Anna’s live here throughout the winter, but that’s about it. You don’t start getting more variety until the summer months.
