I agrée entirely with the bike man I would never again tour with the complication of nexus gears preferring the wonderful simplicity of chain gears. Many years ago I had a rear wheel puncture on my week old bike when we were in St Luce Ken and Michael fixed the puncture and off we went all seemed well but after the first few kilometres it would only go in the very lowest gear. My legs were going like a windmill in a high wind. We found a town with a bike shop but the man said it was too complicated for him. Go to Angers to a specialist shop. A train ride later and all was well. After the tour we took the bike home and I ride it daily BUT when we have bought future bikes in Europe they have always got chain gears
1 year agoI like this profile. It looks like a city skyline.
1 year agoI remember long skinny strawberries in the Perigord area which were so so good. I am hoping they will be available when we pass by south of there in June...
1 year agoThank you for the clarification! This is why birds are not something I try to follow as you do. Too confusing!

1 year agoSee the comment above. I’m pretty sure the signs are wrong, and these are black-headed gulls.
1 year agoBlack-headed. Laughing gulls are pretty similar, but not hard to distinguish if you know what to watch for. Laughing gulls have significantly darker mantles, and an all black head (not white at the back of the neck, like these). Also, laughing gulls are pretty uncommon in Europe, especially inland like this. They’re primarily a North American bird.
1 year agoHi,
The paint used is called « grisaille » in French, and is fired into the glass. It comes in many colors, but mostly black seems to be used. On the other hand, the use of silver salts will produce a yellow staining of the glass like in the capitals of the pillars on either side of St. Sol.
Hi,
It’s a mechanized planter. This one looks like it’s being used for onions, but it could be anything from garlic to potatoes.
Cheers
Sometimes you can get the price cheaper if you book direct with the hotel. Other times it is the same. The only way to tell is to visit the hotel website and look up their room prices. And even then you might not be able to determine the direct with hotel price.

Complete with cathedral and spire and defensive tower. Purely accidental, but quite apropos.
