Hope you are fully recovered soon.
2 weeks agoI'm not so young myself anymore, and every tour gets a bit more difficult. Don't be hard on yourself - take a bit of rest time, but not too much - then start back up! I'm enjoying following along in the journal, best of luck
3 weeks agoSometimes things don't go as we think they "should". Glad you are both well and just need a few days to recover. Can't wait to see you in Boise later in July!
1 month agoWhat a wonderful, blessed coincidence! God has a sense of humor! Hopefully the other guests we rudely awakened do too!

1 month agoIn 2015, I was told by the owner of the hotel in Halfway that the locals referred to the hill after Richland as "Cardiac Hill." After cycling it in the heat, I understood why.
1 month agoUgh! Hope that's the end of the flats for you.
1 month agoIndeed! Now we are facing heat
1 month agoAnyone can do it in the sunshine!
1 month agoIn 2015, as part of my Transam journey, I did the same ride from Mitchell to Dayville. So it was particularly interesting for me to read this entry in your journal 10 years later. We even took several of the same pictures! Best of luck with the rest of your adventure. https://www.cycleblaze.com/journals/buddy/day-44-mitchell-to-dayville-over-keyes-creek-pass/
1 month agoThe difference between western and eastern Oregon are stark. I enjoy seeing the contrast.

It was a wise decision to shorten the tour and attend to your health. FWIW, I've had to postpone a tour for 2 years now due to a smorgasbord of medical nonsense, and it will be at least another year before I am (hopefully) able to attempt it. I haven't given up, I'm still planning on doing the tour, but I have found that it gets exponentially harder as I age and it's certainly not a sure thing. Best of luck as you recover and plan your next tour,
