Vienna Rest Day 1

We took two days to rest and explore Vienna. And for me, that meant two lazy days, as I was just here last fall and had seen all the sights! But also knew where I wanted to hang out!

But first, Happy and I needed to wash ("warsh" as I pronounce it) clothes. Jerry had done so the night before while Happy and I caroused around the Graben, Vienna's main drag. We then met up with Kenneth DeGraff, our fourth cyclist, who will ride with us as far as Prague. Kenneth was staying at a different hotel not far away but had joined us last night for dinner. While a new friend, he is not a stranger to us and has cycled with us several times, including an overnight "tour" to Baltimore.

But back to washing clothes! Jerry had found a close, convenient, and green laundry, GreenClean Wieden. So Happy and I gathered our loose change and dirty clothes and headed out . . . it was only two U-Bahn stops away, followed by a short walk. Unfortunately, it was raining! So we wore our rain jackets as well. Being a Saturday, I was surprised it was not busy. Plus, it was easy to use (European laundromats can be daunting at times). But we had help! This is a chain of some sort, and I guess Saturday is their "straighten-up" day, as there were two ladies and the "boss man" there as well. The ladies were friendly and a delight to talk with. And of course, we made selfies.

Saturday is wash day in most places, but today, Happy and I only had the delightful company of the two ladies who ran the operation.

And then, back on the U-Bahn . . . where they stand to the right on the escalators (just like in Washington).

Stand to the right, please, so the "climbers" can use the left "passing" lane.

Later, Happy and I went to my favorite local bar, kem'S Bar & Kitchenette, and, afterward, met Jerry and Kenneth at Figlmüller (Home of the Schnitzel) for dinner.

A bad interior shot of kem'S Bar & Kitchenette. I like it as it's well hidden, off the beaten path, not touristy, and feels like a real bar.

Followed by schnitzel and potato salad at Figlmüller, a traditional dining spot with three establishments . . . and we were able to get into the original dining room!
