Vienna, AT to Prague, CZ
Well, we didn't bike to Bratislava as originally planned; we drove there instead (shame, shame, shame). And we didn't bike our original Czech Republic route as planned either (joy, joy, joy)! Nope, we rode the Prague-Vienna Greenways . . . a great way to travel between Vienna and Prague, although I think they prefer you start in Prague and head for Vienna! Regardless of your direction, more info can be found here. And you can make your own plans, as there are many diversions and sights to see along the way, so explore it to see what fits best for you. Hence, Greenways and not Greenway!
The Greenway route we will follow, shown in red, was drawn up by Kenneth before leaving the U.S. and before we had arrived in Vienna. Our original route, shown in blue, was developed by me before I knew the Greenways existed. This revision, not biking to Bratislava and staying a day there and then biking north into the Czech Republic, shaved a day off our schedule and allowed Kenneth to join us all the way to Prague. Kenneth, unlike us, is more time-constrained, as work will eventually call him back! But it was a win-win for everyone, as this was definitely the better route.
Since the route out of Vienna did not originate at our hotel and also took a circuitous route down one of the river islands, I created a "shortcut" out of the city that rejoined the Greenways route after about 7.7 miles. That route is shown in green.
