Slovakia
So, change in plans (always be flexible!). While we had planned to bike down the Danube to Bratislava, we had pretty much decided the Danube would not be much different for the next 42 miles as the last 42. I have read it gets quite dramatic the further down towards the Balkans you go, so maybe my next trip along the river will start in Vienna and go to the Black Sea.
So we decided to either visit by train or take a boat down the Danube. But, as it turned out, after deciding late in the day on our method of travel, the boat was pretty much sold out, at least for the hours we wanted. So the train was the other option, but once we considered all of the factors — cost, schedule, and the fact that neither station is particularly near the core — we decided to rent a car for the day and drive! Kenneth, Happy, and I would be going. Jerry decided he would rather wander the hills around Vienna.
So off we went with Happy procuring the rental and doing all the driving. Driving in a foreign country is always "an experience," and we were going to visit two today, so thanks, Happy. And we made it, of course. It was pretty much a straight shot down A4 and A6, and within the hour we were in Slovakia!
