Today was a delightful day, full of sunshine and easy riding. And warmth! It hit 80°F today! And we had a cooling breeze blowing up the Danube, which made it very temperate. But it was a headwind, so life was not entirely perfect! It was more than offset by the scenery and easy riding. Although I'm feeling a bit body-tired. Tomorrow we will do 58 miles and climb something like 2800 feet. And the next two days are just as long. One is 65 miles (but only 1700 feet). It's a long ways to Vienna, and even though downhill, we will still do some climbing.
But the big plus today was the surface treatment. We had very little unpaved surface, which makes the riding much more pleasurable. Also, about half of the ride was not directly along the Danube, so there were diversions into the countryside and small villages along the way. And some of the ride was on the "wrong" side of the levee, so the view of the river is blocked. But it was all pleasant, and it was only our first day . . . we have four more to go just to make Vienna!
We saw more cyclists than we could count. It was virtually highway of cycling, including this family of four!
