Dijon - Not All Those Who Wander Are Lost - CycleBlaze

Dijon

We could afford a leisurely morning. Only 20 miles or so to Dijon. And the day looked to be beautiful. So no reason to arrive too early. But we were fortunate enough to have an early check-in time. Noon! That would allow us to settle in and still get in some tourist time.

But first, breakfast!

Our petit déjeuner is just off the courtyard.

Today's ride to Dijon.

We had booked our room through booking.com and had nabbed a place that slept three. We had been fortunate in that regard since we started. It seems easier to find large accommodations here than in the States. But Happy had not received an email confirmation, so we stopped to call and confirm (thanks, Jerry, we really rely on your proficient French). The second call was the charm. To date, no one has returned a call to our US number!

Taking a break and connecting with our host for the next two nights.

Then back on the trail. As we got closer to Dijon, the number of cyclists increased dramatically, even on a Thursday morning.

Passing under a railroad bridge with a fellow cyclist in hot pursuit. "À droit!" as she passed. Although others said, "À gauche!"

So we were still curious what the definitive warning was. In the US it's "On your left!" but you always need to be careful when translating.

We continued on our way, winding through the outer burbs and suburbs of Dijon. There were many ways in (i.e., multiple trail options), and Happy and I got separated, but I could see him pass me by on the opposite side of a channel of water. He ended up going through a park while I used local streets. I actually arrived at our lodging before he did, where we eventually converged.

Our home for the evening!

It looks iffy, but the opening to the left took you to a nicely finished interior with all sorts of complicated locks. But we got in! Everything was by pass code so the landlord didn't have to actually meet us, just talk to us via telephone. It worked for us! And we were only a ten-minute walk to the cathedral.

So after cleaning up, we took a tour of the centre ville and tackled the Montée de la tour Philippe Le Bon.

Notre Dame.

Then, off to dinner. We had Moroccan tonight. Very good and very generous portions.

Today's ride: 18 miles (29 km)
Total: 266 miles (428 km)
