Layover in Steady Brook

We had decided to decompress for one day in Steady Brook at the end of our tour rather than rush things with a long shuttle and flight on the same day. We cycled along the shoulder of a busy road into Corner Brook, a port on the Bay of Islands at the mouth of the Humber River. Drivers in city traffic were reasonably considerate although we were spoiled by cycling in remote areas.

This "Shay" steam locomotive was on display at a museum in Clear Brook. Shay engines operate on a scenic railway in our home state of West Virginia. We have also seen Shay engines in remote areas of Costa Rica.

Much of the afternoon was spent disassembling the tandem putting squeezing it back into the two cases. For some reason I had more difficulty getting the two cases packed under the 50 lb. limit. We had time for one final walk in this scenic area.

A waterfall above Steady Brook was also the site of a zip line down the mountain.

A picture of the evening sky in Corner Brook was a fitting image of this tour.
