Day 25 - Jacksonville to Atlantic Beach

Today was a tale of two rides.  We left Jacksonville and almost immediately were on pleasant, low traffic country roads.

Our day began on roads like this - smooth pavement, a small shoulder and very little traffic.

We saw the first fields of crops growing that we remember on this trip.

Another cycling friendly road - no shoulder, but no traffic either.

We went by a new housing development with an interesting feature out front.

This picture doesn't show it very well, but there are several gravesites between the hedges. We figured this must be an existing graveyard that the developers had to work aound.

The second tale today was another ride along an island lined with beach homes.

These nice homes are on the oceanfront at the western end of Emerald Isle.

We stopped again at the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores.  We've been here a couple of times before, but it was fun to go through again.  A few of the residents were feeling photogenic today.

Some were really beautiful.

This is my "artistic" photo attempt for today - taken at the aquarium's tidal marsh.

Our lodging tonight is the Caribbe Inn, an older, small motel that has been colorfully restored.  It is very clean and comfortable and just fun to stay in!

Rose SamsonO, I love the colors! Attractive and you don't see a lot of motels like this. Hope you had a good restful night sleep.

Rose SamsonMy! I can sit at this picnic area the whole day. Just really a nice place to eat a Roasted Turkey Sandwich and a cold diet coke. This really makes my day!
