We took a ride south-west today.  Our first destination was downtown Celina.  (Kerry here... In case you care, this part of Ohio likes long "I"'s.  Celina is pronounced  Cell-line-a,  and Lima Ohio is like the bean) However it's pronounced, Celina has some interesting old buildings.

Jeanna & Kerry SmithTo Mike ObermeyerIt's nice to see them in more prosperous towns like Celina. In too many places, the old buildings are empty and decaying. It's a shame to lose them, but maintaining old buildings is not an undertaking for the financially strained.

There is a short rail-trail from Celina to Coldwater.  An active rail line is adjacent to the trail, but we weren't lucky enough to have a train go by while we were riding.

Jeanna & Kerry SmithYou must be a train guy, Michael. We've had a train pass us a couple of times when we were riding on a trail like this. It is cool to have them so close!

We rode past a number of dairy farms today, some small, some large.

I tried to get a good view of the cows in this small barn.

This was one of two adjacent large barns. These cows were easy to see.

We've seen several farms with signs out front identifying them as an "Ohio Century Farm".  They are farms that have been owned by the same family for at least 100 years.

This house at a Century Farm looks as if it has been a family home for at least 100 years.

After watching corn grow all summer, we are starting to see some being harvested.  Kerry says this is being harvested for silage.

Corn being harvested. We suspect this is being harvested for sileage, as the corn is still green.

This silage is made in long long plastic tubes instead of a silo.

Nearby, this field has the corn harvested, but the stalks remain. We don't know why it would be harvested this way. Any of our readers have more farm knowledge than our very limited amount?

It was a nice day - we are definitely enjoying Ohio's quiet farm roads and little towns.

Today's ride: 42 miles (68 km)
Total: 3,546 miles (5,707 km)
