Glacial Lakes - Two Far 2018 - Trailing through the Rust Belt - CycleBlaze

Glacial Lakes

Our day began on the Glacial Lakes bike trail. As you might expect, we passed a series of lakes, large and small. We also noticed we we're passing small memorial markers every few hundred yards along the trail. We passed a dozen memorials before we stopped to take a closer look.

The memorials are to honor and remember Minnesotans who have died in the service of their country in this century. It's a very different experience than seeing names carved in stone to remember the Civil war or some other long ago conflict. These memorials have color pictures of young men and women who should be on this trail pulling their young kids in a bike trailer. Their home towns and grieving parents are not so far from this place, the places they died are a world away.

Least we forget.

One memorial is dedicated to someone who grew up right along the trail.

A life of service and sacrifices great and small.

Our ride ended in Saint Joseph Minnesota. St. Joseph is home to the college of Saint Benedict. We enjoyed a quick ride around the campus.

We followed the herd to a burger joint for dinner. Afterwards we all agreed the gas station convenience store next to our hotel might have been a better dinner choice.
