Day 51 Bergland, MI

Today was supposed to be an easy 32 mile day before our long 71 mile day tomorrow.  It didn't work out that way.  We learned last week that there is a bridge replacement underway along our planned route and the detour added 17 miles to the ride.  17 miles is not really bad, but what hurt was the 850 feet of climbing the detour added.  We had some really steep and long hills today.  But, enough whining.  The weather was beautiful, the roads were good and the drivers were polite.

After all the cloudy days, it was wonderful to look up and see this.

I think there is a big market for firewood up here.

The detour took us up along the west shore of Lake Gogebic.  The views of the lake were very pretty, but the mountain climbing we had to do detracted from our ability to enjoy the scenery.

Shortly before reaching Bergland, we crossed back into Eastern time.  Now we'll get to enjoy daylight until 10:00 PM for a while.

Today's ride: 49 miles (79 km)
Total: 2,371 miles (3,816 km)
