What a Blast! - Against The Wind - CycleBlaze

What a Blast!

Elliston to Port Kenny

Day 19 was a blast. A wind blast. And not the type cycle tourers like to contend with.

A 25-35km/hr non-stop, head-on northerly had us crawling to an early stop after only 67km treadling from Ellison to Port Kenny.
And the local Telstra Tower was out of action, so no phone, no internet for a day or so.

All good though. Accommodation was the Shearers Quarters at the rustic Port Kenny Pub.

Fresh caught whiting for lunch and Thursday night Snitty Special for dinner.

Typical road view today. Long, straight and undulating. What’s not visible is the relentless headwind.

Roadside noodle stop. Energy hit was needed to battle the wind.

Serendipitous meeting with friends of friends. Local primary producers Annaliese and Jacqui are colleagues of alumni of the organisation I recently retired from. It was great to have afternoon tea with them at the pub.

Brochure on the wall at the Port Kenny Pub. Reminder of the catastrophic 1950s British nuclear tests at Maralinga. We’ll pass this area in the next week or so.
