Unda and Over

Erdunda to Port Wakefield

Today’s ride felt almost like a perfect day of cycle touring. The weather was perfect. The distance was ideal. The ascent was a modest 360 metres. The views were varied and scenic. The people we met were friendly and welcoming. And there no mechanical issues with bikes. Not even a flat tyre.

Erdunda where we stayed overnight is located in a valley, so the day began with a climb and then a roll down from a hilly range. We took rest breaks in several small towns with a late lunch in Balaklava, where I also did a media interview with the local newspaper ‘The Plains Advertiser’ a family owned business.

From Balaklava it was about two hours solid riding to Port Wakefield where we found cabin accommodation and an evening meal in a local pub.

Tomorrow will be a shorter day ride to Wallaroo, from where are planning to catch a ferry across Spencer Gulf to Lucky Bay. This will by-pass Port Augusta, and land us on the Eyre Peninsula.

Last night’s accommodation. The Light Hotel. A classic country pub.

Sign in a park at Erdunda. Interesting to learn there’s a walking trail from Murray Bridge to Clare, passing through Erdunda.

Stark paddocks. I’m surprised how many bare paddocks there are in the area.

Paddock clearing. Doesn’t look like healthy soil management to me.
