The Final Border - Against The Wind - CycleBlaze

The Final Border

Nullarbor camp to Eucla

Last nights sleep was disturbed by the sound of road trains, dingoes howling, rain and wind so I was feeling sluggish at dawn. Nevertheless the riding was reasonably easy despite a strong southerly wind. A highlight was the ocean view for some of today.

Best of all, we crossed the final state border for this ride. We are now in Western Australia.

A badly needed coffee to start the day.

A dense band of cloud moving in from the south. This change followed the wind and squall from the south during the night.

One of quite a few oversized loads travelling the Eyre Highway. I stopped riding and rolled onto the verge when these appear.

WA Senior Constable Finn Diamond at the border crossing recognised my Thorn Sherpa bike has Reynolds tubing forks. Conversation revealed Finn is an avid cyclist. He even has an original (1990s) steel framed Gary Fisher mountain bike. Finn is originally from Ireland.

A thing about cycle touring is that high fuel prices don’t matter
