Day 15 - Breaks, VA to Hindman, KY

After biking over 600 miles (and climbing over 35,000 ft of elevation) we finally made it across Virginia and into Kentucky. In hindsight, Virginia ended up being the most difficult state of the trip. This was due to:
- Virginia being the first state and we weren't physically conditioned yet
- We were carrying way more weight than we needed (I ended up shipping back three boxes of extra stuff I didn't need over the next few weeks).
- The Appalachian mountains are no joke. It was hot and we had to walk our bikes on some of the steep sections.
- We biked lengthwise across the state, so it was a little demoralizing biking for two weeks of a cross-country trip and still being in the first state that you started in.
Kentucky is known for loose dogs that chase after cyclists on the TransAmerica trail. Indeed we had three dogs chase us shortly after crossing the border.
Heavy rain, heat, and steep hills today.
Stopped at the post office in Elkhorn city to ship some extra things I didn't need to further reduce the weight and have less things to remember packing/unpacking/finding.
Took another stop at Dairy Queen in Hindman (population ~700) before ending for the day.
We were able to stay in the youth building of the Hindman First Baptist Church.
Today's ride: 72 miles (116 km)
Total: 707 miles (1,138 km)
