Day 11 - Christiansburg to Rural Retreat, VA

Chilly day with another 5,000 ft of climbing.
The town of Rural Retreat has a total area of 2.2 square miles and a population of 1,483. The soft drink “Dr. Pepper” is often cited to have been named after the doctor Charles Pepper who lived in this town in the 1880s.
While stopping by McDonalds for some food, one of the people working there noticed my bike (it's pretty hard not to notice). She asked where I was staying so I told her a local had reached out to us and offered accommodations to us. She said that was her dad and he always does that. He had also done the TransAmerica ride a few years ago. Ironically he wasn't actually planning to, but some other cyclists he was hosting were doing it, so he decided to depart with them the next morning.
