Day 1 - Virginia Beach to Suffolk, VA
First riding day of the actual trip. Felt a bit surreal departing like "ok this is actually happening".

Made our way with some nice weather to Norfolk, a cute-looking town. Took the Norfolk to Portsmouth Ferry for $2.
As we rode, the bicycling infrastructure became non-existent. We were riding on the freeway shoulder next to large/fast trucks. At one point there was a freeway on-ramp to our right merging into the road on our left, so we literally had to stop until we could get across. I could tell why the official route doesn't actually start in Virginia Beach, but we did want to start at the ocean to make it truly coast-to-coast.
Eventually we got to the motel that we booked. Since there wasn't anything within walking distance and we didn't have a car, we decided to order Chipotle delivery from my phone. I was pretty tired so I just ordered a steak bowl and didn't make any customizations. When it arrived, I opened the tin lid and laughed out loud because it was literally just the saddest looking bowl with one scoop of steak pieces. I had thought that the order would default to everything but that was apparently not the case (I blame too much ordering McDonalds which defaults to everything included).
