A Quiet Day and then the thunder, rain and lightning hit!

As tempting as it is to return to Berlin for the day, we opted to spend the day at Karin's instead. We realize that we could return countless days to Berlin to explore, but for us, the real treat is being able to enjoy her home and garden as well as spending the day with her. The laundry facilities are in our cottage, so we will also take advantage of the rare opportunity to do laundry.

"Command central" in Karin's living room: wine, Farkle (dice game), Berlin tour books, English translation books and the computer. We are trying to Skype her brother Kurt in Canada.

Success on Skype! There they are, Kurt and Holly in Victoria. Skype is such a good thing for travellers and for families who are separated by distance.

How do you beat the heat in Fitchenwalde? You go to the local Eis (ice cream) parlour.

We spend a lot of time on Karin's patio looking at her pretty garden. Breakfast, dinner, playing Farkle. Her garden reminds us of Galiano Island with large trees, rhodos, etc.

We are staying in the cottage behind the house. It is the original building on what was her grandparent's property.

We are so comfortable here. Our own bathroom, living room, bedroom and view. The cottage has everything we need and more. Thanks Karin for your incredible hospitality!

A tasty home cooked meal on the patio - rouladen with a yummy gravy, potatoes and beets. I need to learn to cook these dishes.

We had just returned from enjoying our ice cream when the storm began in earnest. The rain fell so hard that we were stranded in our cottage until the rain slowed down.
