Veal Rinh to Kampot: Great food at last

We were both tired last night and I neglected to stock up on water before we went to bed. I felt pretty dehydrated when I woke up this morning so the first task once we got on our bikes was to buy some water. Leigh wasn't interested in breakfast so I just bought a baguette which I ate while we cycled. Last year in the western and northern areas of Cambodia we had no problems in finding BBQ pork and rice with pickled vegetables for breakfast of which we have not yet seen any sign this year. Similarly baguettes were nowhere to be seen last year.

The road to Kampot is flat and not particularly interesting but it did have a shoulder for the entire way. This made for stress free riding which was a big change from Highway 4.

A nice shoulder on the road to Kampot (not that Leigh is making use of it)

We stopped quite a lot to take photos and to bird, the best sighting being saturation views of a small flock of four Red-breasted Parakeets which we last saw at Banteay Srei last year.

Litter was our constant companion but amazingly this cleared up as we approached Kampot which, if a sign near the old bridge in the city is to be believed, won an award as the cleanest town of 2016. Once in Kampot we went looking for some food and settled on a plate of fried rice and egg which was presented in a rather interesting manner.

Egg fried rice - in the shape of a heart.

We were heading for the Apsara Guest House when we passed the Vibola Guest House which we could see has a nice swimming pool. We could get a room for $18, so this is our home for the next three nights.

For supper we cycled down to a Chinese noodle shop Leigh had read about called Ecran Noodle and Dumpling House (I guess that's the English translation). The only items on the menu are fried noodles, noodle soup, dumplings and dumpling soup. We had boiled dumplings and fried noodle with duck washed down with a couple of Angkor Lagers. Absolute heaven. The noodles are made in house, essentially as you wait.
