Pak Nam Lang Suan to north of Sawi: Chancing upon a lovely chedi

Chumpon lay ninety kilometers or so from us and we didn't feel like a long day particularly since a lot of it would have to be on the busy highway 41. We knew highway 41 would have lots of 24 hour motels so we decided we would ride until we had had enough time in the saddle and we found a place to stay that we liked. The first kilometer or so from last night's digs was a reminder that we shouldn't choose the first accommodation we find because there were certainly better choices available than the 99 Resort. One in particular, simply called Seafood and Resort, looked good enough to tempt us into an extra day at Pak Nam Lang Suan but in the end we just rode on.

The twelve kilometers up to the 41 was a lovely ride on quiet country roads. The 41 itself wasn't too bad. There was a good shoulder and good cloud cover so we had an easy ride.

We are not even sure if we are going to pass through Bangkok or not but it was good to see the first distance marker to it.

As we approached Sawi we saw signs for the Sawi Pagoda, the turn off to which was just north of Sawi. The chedi is encircled by cloisters with cast brass Buddha statues. The complex was restored last year and is in excellent condition. The original chedi was built in 1260 AD and, as the name Wat Phra That Sawi suggests, supposedly holds a relic of the Gautama Buddha.

About ten kilomters north of Sawi we saw a sign advertising a motel with a swimming poo but we first stopped for lunch at a plastic chair a few hundred meters short of the motel. Lunch was a really good green curry chicken. The young lady at the eatery seemed reluctant to serve it to us because she thought it might be too spicy. She seemed impressed that these old falangs enjoyed spicy food and claimed a selfie with us.

On arriving at the Numphung Resort we were asked (via Google Translate because of the language gap) whether we wanted a room for temporary or overnight use. We obviously look younger than we sometimes feel. For five hundred baht for an aircon room it is good value for money particularly given that there is a swimming pool.

We spent the afternoon working and had a simple supper of Khao Pad Moo at the resort.

A silly looking glass but the beer tasted OK.
