I'm not grumpy - I've just woken up.

Yesterday's train was on time by Thai standards - we only got away eleven minutes after schedule and arrived in Petchaburi barely forty five minutes behind schedule, just after a quarter to seven this morning.  This meant we had the whole morning to waste before we could book in to accommodation.  Other cyclists might have got on their bikes and ridden some where but being the lazy folk we are meant that, after rustling up some breakfast, we found a small park in which to, well, park off.  Before we knew it it was going on eleven o'clock which we consider a fair time to book in in Thailand.

A pretty little shrine in the park where we whiled away the morning. It had a small but steady stream of devotees visiting it while we were there.

While Leigh read a Terry Pratchet, I passed the time watching and photographing the common park birds. This one's a Great Myna (Acridotheres grandis), one of the true trash birds of SE Asia.

The ubiquitous Eurasian Tree Sparrows (Passer montanus).

And an Ashy Woodswallow (Artamus fuscus). Somehow almost every photo you see of them is taken from the back.

The J-House is a newish block of what are called apart-hotels in Thailand, essentially large sparsely furnished rooms rooms that have just enough facilities for people to use for long stays.  Surprisingly, they are often far cheaper than budget hotels, motels or guesthouses.  J-House is costing us 540 baht for the night and is worth every cent.  Apart from the usual in-room facilities (air con, cable TV, fridge etc) it has a laundry (20 baht a load - already done), drinks on sale and free coffee, tea and water in a well appointed common area.  The room itself is about 30 square meters which means our laundry has been spread out to dry.

Today's ride: 13 km (8 miles)
Total: 1,198 km (744 miles)
