Rain day

As expected, it was raining this morning and continued throughout the day - a typical PNW day of light rain tapering to a light drizzle.  For awhile it looked like it would improve and give us a few hours in the afternoon - maybe enough for a short walk for either of us, or a bike down to the waterfront for myself.  It was a tease though, just enough to tempt us out for a few steps and then quickly turn back when we found that it was still lightly drizzling.

A good day to run a few errands and then just hang out waiting for improvements to come soon.  For Rachael this translated into snuggling up with a good book, and for me it meant blog work followed by a long spell in the front porch catching up on the news, nursing a Fremont IPA, and hoping that the Stellar's jays I hear in the evergreens a few blocks away will come my direction and pose for me.

And shared activities?  It's. Good day to plan and make bookings for our next stops after we leave Bellingham.  Just as a preview: from here we'll take the train back to Portland for about two weeks, with a stop off in Seattle to visit dad.  From there we'll head over to Astoria and Manzanita for a week on the coast and then come back to the valley for three weeks in Salem.  And that's far enough for now.

And at the end of the day we eat in with another stir-fry and then watch the manic Raising Arizona.  Pretty much a perfect day off.

It's taken me a couple of days to notice the fresh-cut dahlias on our kitchen table.

The primary errand of the day is. Trip to REI to return the first set of leggings Rachael bought. She fell in love with the color but forgot to check the size of the pair she picked up. She's slender enough, but extra-small is just a little cramped for riding comfort.

Fleetwood Mac, 1975. From an article in today's NYT recognizing the 50th anniversary of their first album.

Our host warned us about the killer sheep that grazes in the front pasture. Yikes, he's loose!

Well, maybe not so scary after all. He wanders over for a nice pat on the head and to check out our car, and then moves on.

Karen PoretA CALIFORNIA plate in WA? Prepare to be glared at! Well, maybe not, as I see there is a PF registration tag, instead of a month. This is a tell tale notice for “not a local, but a loaner”, and here in CA, it’s for the thieves to take note.

Our house is a very, very, very fine house. No cats in the yard though, darn it.

Steve Miller/GrampiesWell you do have the killer sheep. It does look a bit undernourished and bowlegged though.
