Onward to Wilen, over the mountains and through the rain

Today‘s big accomplishment was riding over the Brunig mountain pass. We started out taking the MS Bubenberg on the lake from Spiez to Interlaken and then when we got on our bikes in Interlaken we worked hard to conserve power because we knew that we had two uphills to reserve power for, especially the Brunig mountain pass. In our 37 miles we climbed 4,757 feet that was a lot for these Florida girls! We spent a lot of time riding around lakes, visited a waterfall and saw several other waterfalls while riding in the valley. The Brunig pass was a very long climb, we think it was about 3.5 to 4 miles of constant uphill but the grade of the road made it eminently doable with help from our e-bikes. On this trip we have had several other shorter climbs that were steeper.  We stopped in Meringen to eat some peanut butter crackers and some shot blocks to fuel our way up the hills to come. Once we left Meringen and started up the pass the drizzle turned to steady rain. After climbing the pass we had lots of downhill coasting to get to our hotel which seemed like it was another 37 miles away. The cold rain and wet roads made for the need to be very careful. We were very glad to get to our hotel and jump in their heated pools.

Good morning mountains

Yesterday we noticed this place where we could see something going up and down the mountain but from across the lake we couldn’t see what it was.

We got close enough today so that we could tell that it is a funicular taking people up to the niederhorn.

You can actually walk behind the falls. The roar from the falls is amazingly loud.

By this time it was raining but not terribly hard. As we headed up the Brunig pass it started raining harder till we were soaked completely through. When we finally got to our hotel it stopped raining but we were squishing in our shoes by then.

Today's ride: 37 miles (60 km)
Total: 190 miles (306 km)
