2 Friday

The horse had all but excepted me, I think, as this morning it is grazing nearby unfazed by my presences.

I see before setting off the Kona's rear tyre is quite soft, so I pump it up. Then, having descended to Kilmartin, I hear a sudden hiss as the air start to leak rapidly, so I'd to use the pump once again and keeping my fingers crossed while it kept leaking air it eventually stopped and fortunate the tyre remains hard enough to ride.

I had decided to remain with The Caledonian Way and spend most of the morning upon an undulating tarmac road passing through a corridor of pine trees with a long loch below through the trees to the right. Around noon I reach a tee-junction with a busy A road and going left while entering a village called Taynuilt, I ride on the pavement, but this terminates at the end of the urban area and I have to join the road with its steady flow of traffic for the next five miles to Connel with it's long narrow bridge with traffic lights alternating traffic crossing from either side. A bike-lane has been bolted to the side of the iron bridge, so I didn't have to wait for the lights, and on the other side, the NCN 78 cycle route goes along a greenway with open water of a bay on the left.

There was more and more bikes and dog-walkers on this route and ahead the greenway passes through a large caravan park leading into the village of Benderloch where I stop at Ben Lora cafe with its large veranda seating area. It is so popular that I only got a seat outside and had to leave my phone charging by an inside table at my own risk. And after charging, I add considerably to the day's expenditure in the shop opposite called the Pink House.

The purpose built path continues along the bay entering Loch Linnhe with small isles including a small isle with an imposing  Norman castle. The beach along this stretch had lots of good camping spots, so even though its still early, I stop and camp.
