Day 6, Massachusetts

beat the storm

Riding time: 4:36   Average speed: 9.1 mph  Total Ascent:  2582 ft

Our weather apps were indicating that there would be severe thunder and lightening after 1 pm, so we going early without breakfast (we had energy bars, apple, banana, strawberries we bought the day before.).  We planned 40 mile ride to Westborough, Mass. from Nashua, NH to stay at Extended Stay America. We had many hills but not as many steep hills (above 7% grade) though there were those.  My body is getting stronger with each day and I think it helped to take a day off.

I really do enjoy riding with Jonathan.  He shares the navagation, laundry, meals, etc. not to mention the great conversation and comradery.

This was the sign when we entered Massachusetts. No Welcome, just make sure you keep the state clean.

This pick is of Jonathan up the road. .... meant to show one of the many climbs we made today.

This road is typical for our route. Lots of desiduous trees. What we've seen is most rural homes have a forest as part of their property.

When we do get on a busier road without much shoulder we see these signs. In Oregon, the rule is 3 ft. but there is no signage to inform drivers. Our experience here has been that the drivers do adhear to this. The vehicles we've encountered are generally courteous.

Caroline BurnellSome of those roads look pretty. The thunder storms back there are amazing and can be bone rattling.
