Recovery ride

This day was a recovery day. ........only rode 35 miles and it was supposed to be 31 except I went a straight when I should have turned and had to backtrack. (see my route above)
The ride started at about 9:30 after a quick breakfast at a HyVee store and that after a severe thunderstorm rolled through Eldora. I was not pushing it at all and knew that I'd be early to check in my motel in Marshallville, so I stopped at a city park in Albion. There was pavilion where to boys were hanging out waiting for a parent. Willy, the holder brother was looking out for Daymion. Willy, going into 8th grade was too cool to talk with me, but Daymion, going into 5th grade, asked me question after question. Is Maine in Iowa? Where is Maine? Is it near Florida? He was born in Florida. I showed him on my phone the map of the US and where the Portlands are. He asked all about the stuff on my bike and knows more about it now than many of the folks I've engaged along the way.
.... always fun to talk with kids.
