Following the Illinois and Michigan Canal Tow Path trail
I got to spend the evening, night and morning with my sister, Ella. We had a great time just hanging out and telling stories and philosophies. Doesn't she look great?
The day's travel was mostly a long the Illinois and Michigan Canal Tow Path, very much like the C & O Tow Path that I rode in Mariland along the Patomac River. This one follows the Des Plaines River and eventually along the Illionois River. I sang along of songs asking Alexa to play ....
Rarely have I had an opportunity to photograph wild life. I've seen myriads of rabits, squirls and chipmunks along with the occasional dear and some fawns, plenty of groundhogs, and this rakoon was not shy at all. Oh on the Panhandle Trail in PA, I saw, and regret not stopping to take a picture and huge snapping turtle.
With 30 miles to go, this guy, Raush..something was his name, the Englishman riding and I stopped and swapped stories. He was also riding the Great American Rail-Trail route, but he was riding for a cause (The International Peace Run?) He was finishing his tour today since he lost his riding partner to an accident and the "cause" would not let him go further alone.
I finally reach my destination at the hotel in Peru, IL where my good friend, Noel Rodakowski was waiting for me. We've been hanging out and sharing stories. He's going to give me a ride in his pickup to my next destination, Genesio Camp Ground. I need the day to recover from that long arduous ride.
Today's ride: 71 miles (114 km) Total: 1,982 miles (3,190 km)
