Day 24, Cumberland, MD to Rockwood, PA

start the GAP (Great Allegheny Passage) rail-trail, from Maryland to Pennsylvania

I added 2 miles to this number because I forgot to start my bike computer for about 3/4 of a mile and the lengths of the tunnels did not get recorded on my computer

Starting from Cumberland, the grade averages 2%. This was the first tunnel we encountered today. About a quarter of a mile long

Just a typical view as I rode along a functioning rail.

This tunnel is close to the Eastern Continental Divide. It is about 2/3 of a mile long. It is lighted with motion detectors. The very last light is the end of the tunnel.

Boge SafforesThese long tunnels look a bit unsettling! Wish I was there though 😊

This line falls on the exact continental divide. Waters running East to the Atlantic Ocean on one side. The west side send water to the Golf of Mexico. Yes Mexico. It says it right on the sign.

We've finally made it out of Maryland.  In four days, I'll be in Ohio.  It's been everything I've imagined it would be and more of stuff that I didn't imagine.

Today's ride: 45 miles (72 km)
Total: 1,114 miles (1,793 km)
