- got away from the hotel early this morning to beat the storm that was coming. Imediately, I encountered a steep hill which I overcame without having to get off the bike.
- What followed was more hills and I was off my bike many times pushing up relatively short hills and a couple of longer ones.
- Exhausted, and hearing thunder in the distance, I noticed the Rock Creek Tavern across the road as I pulled up to an intersection. This was in a rural area with no other businesses around. Without hesitation, I went over and had lunch and hung out there for the next three hours to wait for the storm to pass.
- I had arranged to stay the night with Neal in Bethesda and we were texting back and forth a long the way
- When I got into the DC area, I got onto the Rock Creek bicycle trail, which took me very close to Neal's house. More on Neal in tomorrow's post.
- Long tough day.
Today's ride: 52 miles (84 km)
Total: 883 miles (1,421 km)
