Alps to Adriatic day 7 - Šezana to Piran
Lipizzan horses and descending to Adriatic
Our final day riding to the Adriatic was a great ending to our Alps to Adriatic Slovenian tour. We left our hotel and only rode 3 1/2 miles to the Lipica horse stud farm. It was a tough decision as we knew we were giving up riding in shade in only the high 70’s for an hour but the horses truly blew me away and were well worth the warm temps later.
The Lipica farm created the breed in 1580 for by the nobility in Vienna. It took 200 years of crossbreeding for them to develop the actual breed. The horses are known for hard working and good feet so they’re good at dressage. Foals are born dark and turn lighter with each she’d which is characteristic is true greys. We were fortunate to watch them bring out the mates in the morning then the foals with their moms.
We then continue down to the coast and rode some great gravel paths, some nice bike lanes and were even on the EuroVelo 8 route for several miles.
Despite busy towns with tourists, we managed to keep moving quite well on the bike lanes as all traffic stops for us.
Fun to arrive in Piran! I jumped in the sea later to celebrate.
