Noto to Siracusa (Ortigia)

I haven’t said much about our accommodation in Noto but we stayed in a palazzo built in 1760(?). The palazzo has been in Giovanni’s family for several generations and was converted to a B&B 15 years ago after the death of his grandmother (who had opened it to the public as a museum).  Guests get a tour of the main rooms on the ground floor after their first breakfast. Our room was one of those opening on the walled garden which contained lemon trees and other flowering trees and shrubs.  Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to get a decent photo.

Fresh squeezed orange juice!

Quick candid shot of the breakfast room. This room is much bigger than the palazzo’s dining room and was used for entertaining guests (I think)

The ride to Siracusa wasn’t anything special. We just pedalled and didn’t stop for photos. There wasn’t really anything worth stopping for.

We arrived at our apartment in Ortigia, the old city of Syracuse and so called because it’s on an island of that name, around noon. Luckily, there was a flyer for a small grocery in the area because Google had nothing on this Sunday afternoon. We stocked up for today’s lunch and two breakfasts, returned and ate our bread and cheese and prosciutto crudo, washed down with some of the wine provided for us, with fresh strawberries and Modica chocolate for dessert.

A few photos from our walk after lunch:

San Giorgio again? Nope. San Martino di Tours.

Bill ShaneyfeltTo Jacquie GaudetMe either, but fortunately the internet provides an abundance of info (too much sometimes!) if one has the luxury of spending the time digging.

Scott AndersonNice. We saw this tonight from right underneath. It’s. Much better view from across the water.

When we got closer, we could see that the Chieso dello Spirito Santo needs some TLC.

This building is being renovated and it’s possible to see how thick the masonry walls are.

Kirsten KaarsooA quick question. Lyle and I are getting ready for our trip in a couple of weeks and I am thinking of bringing my water flosser ie waterpik. I never have in the past but I have grown attached to it. I know you mentioned earlier on that Al left his behind. Is he regretting it? I figure I will lose the approx 220g in body fat so I can bring it along.:)

Jacquie GaudetTo Kirsten KaarsooHe says he misses it but not enough to carry it. Apparently it used to turn on in his pannier and sounded like a large vehicle approaching from behind. Our electric toothbrushes are another matter. They come along.
