Day 2 - to Sequim

Wildflowers and country roads

Today, I drive sag. And what a gorgeous day it is! The sun is out and all the weather apps are promising low 70s by the afternoon. After yet another good meal (this time with much better service), we’re ready to roll.

Our intrepid cyclists.

I plan to stop every 7 miles or so and wait for them to either stop, if they need something, or keep rolling. The route today is almost all side roads and multi-use paths.

I’ll let the pictures tell today’s story.

Rolling country roads. No shoulders to speak of, but traffic is very light, and the scenery is idyllic.

Waiting by side of the road. It’s so quiet out here…nothing but the sounds of buzzing insects and birds calling to each other.

Here they come…and go. Guess they didn’t need anything.

View of the snow-capped Olympic range.

Another view of the mountains framed by Scotch broom, which is everywhere out here.

A pond and dilapidated house by the side of the road — this would be a great place for a picnic.

I’m fascinated by this old building for some reason.

The pond is surrounded by wild rose.

And here they come again.

We all wonder if this used to be a fire station, and what is it used for now?

Waiting by Discovery Bay. The tide was low, so it was more like mudflats than a bay.

Gen took this pic of lupins lining the path.

And finally, we arrive at our destination for the night, a Best Western on the edge of Sequim.

We have dinner at a Mexican restaurant, Las Palomas, about a half mile down the main street. The food is just okay, a little bland. My margarita is great, but wildly expensive, costing more than my dinner. (There’s a reason they don’t list prices on their drink menu.)

On the way back to the hotel, we passed this field of white daisies with a dramatic sky in the background.

Tomorrow we have a short ride to Port Angeles where we will catch the ferry to Victoria.

Today's ride: 32 miles (51 km)
Total: 59 miles (95 km)
