Day of Firsts

My first “first” of the day began with morning coffee. Our hosts use a very fancy Nexpresso machine. I have never seen or used one and they had stocked up with probably 15 different varieties of expresso and coffees. I am quite impressed with both the variety and the quality of the coffee from this machine. All the pods are color-coded and the volume of beverage varies from 4 to 14 oz.

After our initial coffees and chatting, we went for a walk down the hill to the edge of the water. The tide was going out and we could see crabs scuttlingalong right at the water’s edge and clams “spitting” water out of their shells.

Returning to the house we had a lovely brunch of fruit, cheese, crackers and nuts. The others also had smoked salmon (not me, I don’t eat seafood.)

My next “first” happened about now. All the bathrooms are equipped with fancy bidet toilets. I had never used a bidet and so resolved to try it. It is…interesting. I do see how it is more hygienic and saves toilet paper.

We spent most of the afternoon visiting, gabbing and discussing and solving all of the world’s problems. It really has been a very lazy and relaxing day, followed by a very nice dinner in town.

As we discussed our departure tomorrow, I volunteered to be the “first” driver. It a short leg to Port Ludlow, about 29 miles. There is some possibility of morning showers so the plan is to leave no earlier than 11 am.

Mt. Rainier. Note the lenticular cloud just at the summit. Mary says this is a sign that the weather is changing.

Steve Miller/GrampiesYou would enjoy a trip to southern Spain, where you find the freshest of fresh fruits and veggies, and a bidet in most hotels. These things confuse me a bit, because they have a spout that seems positioned to pour down your backside, but the bowl also commonly has a plug. Are you supposed to fill it first? The hotel commonly supplies a separate towel beside the unit, so while it may save on paper, it uses laundry more. Crocodile Dundee also had trouble understanding the thing, and I think I once found a Youtube tutorial. But after a brief one time infatuation, I gave up on it.
