Washington Island

“0” (but I rode 30 miles)

Up around 7 (slept in!) and off to the Island café for birthday breakfast for Grace Marmaras before she had to work a double shift! Had some amazing avocado toast with poached egg. Jon had a tartine that was that plus bacon, pesto, sundried tomatoes and balsamic vinegar. A huge melange of flavors there! After that filling meal, Jon went off to help Peter get his boat running and I circumnavigated the island on my bike. You probably wouldn’t think that a bike ride at this point would be a stress reliever, but it was a gorgeous day for it and helped clear my head. The double chocolate ice cream at Jackson harbor didn’t hurt either. I saw a couple of preteen boys investigating the old boat tied to the harbor; fun to watch the curiosity. I was also asked by some folks in a car how to get to “the beach”. Well...there are many, but I figured they meant Schoolhouse, so I told them how to get there. I later realized I may have given them the wrong directions. Oops. It’s a small island; they’ll figure it out. 😁

Later on, we took a swim in Lake Michigan and Jon fished a bit. For dinner, we experienced Tuesday Burger Night at Karly’s restaurant where Grace works. Even at 5:00, there were 50+ people there at the fold out tables set up outside. The only open spots were in the hot sun, so we went inside to the bar and watched the circus unfold. They were 2 servers short (who does that on a busy night?!) So many people, most of them patient, some not so much. There was one super impatient fellow that put in a takeout order at the bar, then asked for a status after about 10 minutes. Dude, have you looked at the number of people here?!! It’s gonna take at least 30 minutes. Grace was super busy taking orders, making drinks, refilling supplies, serving up orders, and then someone bumps into her drink tray and dumps it all over her. Oy. Happy Birthday Grace! 🙄

(On a side note, we had to ferry Grace’s car to the restaurant and I realized that I haven’t driven a car in 7 weeks!! Crazy!)

After dinner, we went back to Gibson’s and paddled around the inlet and point in kayaks, then watched the sunset/fished. Rest day #3 accomplished.
