Casio

We ate in the hostel and well too. Tricia cooked something on the stove and the bottle of Barbera was absolutely excellent. We slept well in our cells

Up at 7.00am - juice and a pack up but it wasn't until 8.00 that we got under way. First back to the centre to get a photo of the Duomo. Then along the main street and finally out into the country. Immediately it changed. There was very little plowing but grass, lucern and hills . It was quite pretty and even a few grapes. Then a long hill before descending to a busy valley which took us to Potonova on a road too busy. Over the bridge and into the town where Tricia found an Information. She found a helful lady who booked us in to a place in Casio, we thought it was hotel but it turned out to be a hostel - only 34E for the pair of us.

After Potonova we set of seriously into the crossing of the Appenines. I hadn't really expected it so soon. We rode 1-2km out of Potonova then it was far too steep for us so we pushed for the next 14km. There were great views back over the Po Valley and into the valleys on either side. There was very little traffic and that there was was mostly motorbikes having fun on the twisting road. Went past a sign saying that Enzo Ferrari drove in a race over the road in 1919.

We finally reached Casio at about 4.00pm. The man turned up, he must have been looking out for us. The hamlet is tiny but quite pleasant. We showered then went across the road which was rather strange but filling after our long push up the hill. We had come up to 880m from about 50m
