Today was supposed to be a big day. I woke up at 5:30 with one thing on my mind: knocking out miles. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had different plans. It rained all night in Windsor, and wasn’t supposed to let up until 8am. So I got ready and kept myself busy until 8 o’clock rolled around, and by then the forecast expected rain until the afternoon. The other cyclists at my campsite decided to call it a rain day. But I’m not the other cyclists.

I charged into the rain full force at 8am (after a slice of Casey’s breakfast pizza)

I was making decent time, aside from my delayed start. The trail was fairly soft, as it had also rained the prior couple days, so nobody else was out there. I saw 6 people walking and 0 cyclists in the 20 mile ride to Sedalia. I was really enjoying the Katy though!

I was having a pleasant ride, despite a couple of issues popping up on my bike. I noticed I couldn’t reach my handlebars if I was sitting straight up, making it uncomfortable to ride for extended periods of time. With all the mud, it was also time to give my chain some attention. So I stopped at Velo Pro in Sedalia to get things worked on. I got a shorter stem and some bike lube, and this detour set me back about an hour from where I was at already. I decided it was time to call my potential Warmshowers host and let them know I wouldn’t make it. Well, when they got wind that I was in Sedalia, they offered to pick me up from the bike shop and drive me to Columbia on their way back home from Kansas City! I figured it would be stupid to turn down such an offer, so to Columbia I went. (THANK YOU KATHERINE!)

After washing the bike and the bags, I relubed the chain and hopefully we should be all good to go tomorrow! Really hoping the trail dries out a decent bit. Would love to put the pedal to the metal now that I’m very much so rejuvenated!
