Day 14: Cedarville to Columbus
Severe Thunderstorm Warning
I woke up to rain bouncing off the side of my tent. Little did I know, this would be foreshadowing for the day. I couldn’t just sit there since I wasn’t at a campground, so I set pedal towards Columbus. I stopped for breakfast and ate 4 whole biscuits and gravy with breakfast potatoes… That ended up giving me the energy I needed to get through the day. The Ohio to Erie Trail has been fantastic to ride. It was a pretty peaceful morning. There was some slight rain, but nothing too bad. Once lunchtime rolled around, I saw that there was some more serious rain on the way. It ended up pouring right as I was finishing my BLT, so I waited for a gap in the rain to get out and on the bike again. I only had 30 miles to Isaac’s house. Little did I know, this would be 30 miles of the worst weather on the trip thus far. It poured for at least half of the time on the way there. And since a lot of the ride was through Columbus, I had to sit and wait at intersections for my turn to go.
It was a pretty miserable time. But I kept on pedaling with my waterlogged shoes, and eventually made it. I jumped right in the shower and did a load of laundry. Once Isaac’s wife Sierra got home, we all had dinner and caught up. It was great to see someone I knew for the first time in a couple weeks.
They’re helping me get everything dry and hopefully by tomorrow morning I should be ready to go again!
Today's ride: 68 miles (109 km)
Total: 771 miles (1,241 km)
